Monster Truck Madness at Parramatta Speedway
21st April 2006
For us it was a first to see some Monster Truck action held out at Western Sydney 's Parramatta Speedway. A lesson in what makes a Monster truck tick came from Billy Featherby a 14 year old Monster truck driver. When we asked Billy what is was like to drive a Monster truck his answer was simple... AWESOME. Powering one of the monster trucks was a Blown 454 big block Chevy, injected and running on methanol. Power from one of these baby's is a whopping 1800hp and if you closed your eyes whilst one of these baby's was running you would think your were standing next to a funny car ready to run down the quarter mile. Also featured was the Jet Van and you guessed it, it has a jet engine strapped into the back and can do a mean dump and burn which it showed an example of by roastiing a car and has been clocked at a top speed of 336kph. We also got around the pit area where we took a few shots of the speedway cars and some of the competitors including the Priestly sisters who happened to be strapped into their cars ready to race when we took the shot. Good to see the girls mixing it up with the boys. A good night out but we were a bit disappointed at not being able to get closer to the action to get some better shots, but that's how it goes.
