However at this point the Torana was too synonymous inside size with the more contemporary Holden Commodore, plus it was shortly dropped within the Holden range inside 1979. Sunbirds continued by 1980 with all the 1·9 L Starfire changing the Opel device. For a whilst at smallest, there was clearly speak of further extending the Torana/Sunbird's creation lifetime beyond 1980, with a facelifted 'UD' model, though it not eventuated.
